I get to borrow a Nikon point-and-shoot camera! Although the megapixel is fairly low (7.1 mp), I would have to say the performance is nice. This camera I used for my food reviews in Hollywood Steakhouse and Sugar. The focus is nice, although one should be still when taking a micro picture. I have yet to know about ISOs, aperture and all the technical stuff. I'm only a beginner here.

Our dog, Kuy-koy will be the next subject for the shoot. I have been meaning to introduce her to all of y'all. I attempted to take pictures of her a while ago but she can't stand still :/ Omg, I don't even know why my dad calls her Kuy-koy. There is no touch of femininity in it. She's a cute half-labrador, half-askal puppy. We love her dearly. :)

We're going to Palawan on Thursday! Mother tells me to pack what I'm to wear for three days there. It takes me a while to mix-and-match clothes. I am, by nature, not a fashionista. I opt to wear simple clothes, and it's a big challege for me to work out an ensemble. And if I do attempt to, the combination of clothes look awkward altogether. :/ I have a question? What does one wear to Palawan? And not, this is not a vacation. This is a business trip. HELP ME PLEASE.

Anyway... I get bored and the fun way to kill time is to experiment with the camera. Gosh. Do I know how to entertain myself. :D

The problem with us Antipolo people is that we don’t seem to have a lot of options when it comes to really good classy restaurants here in our hometown. We often find ourselves traveling to nearby malls like Sta. Lucia, or Robinson’s Metroeast. Or we resort to the usual resto/bar stretch along Sumulong Highway overlooking. It gets really tiring, these places. And the town, I mean, come on? Aren’t we tired of the same old fastfood chains? Take it from me. I’ve been here all of my life and my family and I choose to eat out mostly in the metro.

The same goes for the people living in the metro. The problem with the city is its overcrowded and not to mention, noisy. Sometimes all you want is a nice, quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the metro. Tagaytay is too far and people going there should have a car. Summer has dawned upon us and all we really crave for is a cool and breezy transpo-friendly place to hang out after a long tiring day.

Then came Hollywood Steakhouse..life in Antipolo will never be the same again.  :)

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty shall we?

DIRECTIONS:How do get there is pretty easy. There are two highways leading to Antipolo and all you need to take is the SUMULONG HIGHWAY direction. When you get to Masinag, you will see an intersection going to Marikina (left turn), Cogeo (straight ahead), Antipolo (turn right): you turn right (of course). You know when you are near Hollywood Steakhouse when you see the following landmarks: a BIG CASTLE (which is a motel/apartelle), VALLEY GOLF (it will go unnoticed believe me, read: huge golf ball) which is across OLD SPAGHETTI HOUSE/GRILLA. When you reach Old spaghetti house, turn left and then you’ll see Hollywood Steakhouse, Seven Suites and some spa. Can’t understand my direction? Googlemap it ;) Simply type in: Seven Suites, Antipolo and zoom it in.

THE AMBIANCE:The ambiance is very welcoming. It’s a big place and the interior is breezy as it is not a closed area. Also, the location is great especially at night because you get to see the pretty city lights of Manila.

THE FOOD: Their meals are bundled with soup, starch and salad already. Below are their choices for the meat/fish.

For the salad and soup, you choose whatever tickles your fancy below. What I like about the salad is that we are assured that the veggies are fresh. Ate Kath told me the restaurant actually have a little greenhouse garden for herbs and vegetables nearby.

I forgot to take a picture of the menu for starch. But there are basically around 3 choices of rice there: Java Rice, Garlic Rice and Asian Rice. For people who are not a fan of grains, Macaroni & Cheese and French Fries are other options.

Also, they have a bottle of wine readily available for consumption. Be reminded that the wine is not a complementary drink. Ask the waiter how much a bottle costsni & Cheese and French Fries are your other options.

Because I wasn’t really up for eating bigmansteaks, I chose a lighter alternative: Hickory Salmon Steak paired up with Japanese Slaw, Black Bean Soup and Java Rice for my starch.

Japanese Slaw

The Japanese Slaw is fresh and light. I like how the creaminess of the dressing is toned down by the bitter Mizuna lettuce.  What I also like is how fresh the salad tastes. The green&purple cabbages are so crisp. But I have an issue with the name of the salad. I can’t figure out why and how it is Japanese because there is nothing so Japanese-y about it. Eitherway, it tastes delicious.

Black Bean Soup

I wasn’t so crazy about the Black Bean Soup I ordered. I think the black beans were pureed because there weren’t any whole beans in the soup. I’m not really a fan of smooth soup, like the black bean soup in Hollywood Steakhouse. I personally like a soup with chunks of ingredients in it. But for starting a meal, this is light and gets your stomach ready for the main course.

Hickory Salmon Steak and Java Rice

I got a big slab of Hickory Salmon steak for the main course. I LOVE IT! Firstly because the Salmon is fresh and doesn’t have any pungent fishy smell. Secondly, the salmon is cooked just right. It is still moist and succulent. Thirdly, the hickory flavor does not overpower the salmon meat too much. Sometimes you really don’t want powerful flavors ruining the virgin taste of the fresh fish. Yes, the salmon steak has already been deboned so you don’t have to worry about getting a bone stuck in your throat. I like the sauce that comes with it. It’s a cross between a barbeque sauce and a teriyaki sauce. Asian flavors

indeed.

Hickory Salmon Steak with Shredded Nori on top and Stir-fried Vegetables on the Side

OTHER PERKS:I’ve been told that as you wait for your order, you may want to go to Seven Suites and view the observatory. FYI: Did you know that the observatory in Seven Suites is the 4th largest/most powerful telescope in the Philippines?  Seven Suites is nearby Hollywood Steakhouse.Or you can walk around the vicinity, camwhore with your friends, take picture of the scenery. My mom told me and I quote, “Hindi tinipid ang lugar.”

SERVICE:The waiters are very respectable and pleasant to the diners. We only had water for drinks but still the waiter was very attentive and fills up our water glass every time it’s already empty.  I assure that you won’t have to wait long for your food to be served.

PARKING:If you have your car with you when you go here, the parking shouldn’t be a problem.

TRANSPORTATION:You don’t need a car to get to Hollywood Steakhouse/Seven Suites. A jeep would suffice. All you need to do is ride an Antipolo jeep going to Sumulong Highway. Tell the manong driver you will get off at Valley Golf.

THE VERDICT and to summarize:

I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE and is a MUST VISIT. Why?

1.) The ambiance is very relaxing and breezy. Read: overlooking the pretty city lights of Manila (I assume of course you go to Hollywood Steakhouse at night for dinner)

2.) The food is very affordable and delicious. You get your money’s worth because the ingredients are fresh and of good quality.

3.) The service in general is great. Waiters are very attentive and respectable to the customers.

4.) Great hang out place for family and friends. But is highly recommended for diner dates or romantic dates.

Would definitely visit the place again. OH!!! AND DESSERT!!! How can I ever forget about that when it’s my favorite part of a full course meal! If you want a dessert after your meal, you walk to Seven Suites and they have a dessert bar there called SUGAR. :)

One of the best things to do when you are tired and stressed is to eat desserts. As one saying goes, “Stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Coincidence? I think not!”

There is something undeniably magical about desserts which uplift ones spirit. When one is down with depression or is celebrating whatever occassion with friends/family, desserts never seem to be isolated out of the picture. Sometimes, there is no real need for emotional stress or celebration to eat a scrumptious dessert. Sometimes, we just look forward to ending the day with a sweet touch.

Modest Carrot Cake

Before we get down to the details of what we ate at Sugar, how about I tell you how to go there? Sugar is a dessert bar in Seven SuitesHotel in Antipolo City and is nearby Hollywood Steakhouse. You may view my entry regarding Hollywood Steakhouse and stated in that blog is the directions on how to get there. Sugar/Seven Suites and Hollywood Steakhouse are all in same area.

THE AMBIANCE:

Among other things, the starry parol-like lamp shades is one of your immediate views from where you are in Sugar, a dessert bar in Seven Suites Hotel. Against the cute lamps, you also get to see a scenic view of the pretty Manila city lights. The place is utterly pleasant best enjoyed for unwinding after work/school. I say you can’t go wrong with relaxing while eating a dessert at Sugar.

THE FOOD: Presentation is very important factor in the food industry. As they say, we eat with our eyes first. If you were handed just a plate of plain cake or cookies versus a plate of carefully crafted/beautifully presented cookies, I think you’d choose to eat the latter. What I absolutely love about sugar is they just don’t look beautiful, but they taste even BETTER! I hate it when I get fooled with presentation. Sugar actually delivers and satisfies ;)

Modest Carrot Cake

I can’t lie to you about the Modest Carrot Cake…they are one of the best Carrot Cakes I’ve ever tasted. The interesting part of the presentation is the freshly grated carrot placed on top of the cake scattered all over the plate. It gives a different crunchy texture to the carrot cake itself. And the white sauce is I think a thin cream mixture with condensed milk.

The carrot cake is moist and the sweetness is just right. It also has lots of walnuts and some pineapple tidbits (which adds to the moist-nes). I like the texture and combination of the freshly grated carrot and the carrot cake itself. And since the cake and frosting isn’t too sweet, the white sauce in the bottom gives it another level of sweetness and flavor.

Gone is the Modest Carrot Cake. We were all happy.

   Nostalgic Dark Chocolate Cheese Crumb

The Nostalgic Dark Chocolate Cheese Crumb is totally to dieeee for. I cannot emphasize this enough, the name of the dessert is as interesting as the taste of the dessert itself! There are different flavors going on when you take a big fat bite! The layers of flavors go pleasantly together that it made me close my eyes and think of happy times. I am not kidding. First you have the cheese crumbs sprinkled over the layer of white lemon cream mixture. Then the next layer is the good old dark chocolate goodness, then below it is the cheesy crumb crust. Yum.

I am really dying to have my tongue taste another round of Nostalgic Dark Chocolate Cheese Crumb.. I like the combination of dark chocolate and the lemon-y taste of the whipped cream. I am totally salivating right now.

One choice of dessert at Sugar is actually meant for sharing. This is great when you have a romantic date or share it with a friend. But if you’re selfish like me (when it comes to amazing desserts like these atleast), then do not share and finish it all on your own!

THE VERDICT: A MUST TRY!! The desserts at Sugar are really scumptious and delicious. Not only is the presentation yummy, but so is the taste! Hindi ka tinipid dito. You don’t know what you are missing ;)

The problem with us Antipolo people is that we don't seem to have a lot of options when it comes to really good classy restaurants here in our hometown. I've been here all of my life and my family and I choose to eat out mostly in the metro.

Having been born and raised in Antipolo, it has been one of my agenda to visit Seven Suites. The only problem is there was an air of sophistication to it that I immediately shied away. Maybe I got too intimidated. It looks too expensive and the inital reaction would be, gosh, I can't afford this. BUT SINCE HOLLYWOOD STEAK AND SUGAR happened... there would be that one realiable place for special occassions AND affordable prices at that. :)

PS.

TO MY FELLOW GEOGRAPHY BATCHMATES, and constellation/stars/astronomy aficionado-- I've been told that as you wait for your order in Hollywood Steakhouse, or if at the end of the meal you decide to munch sweets at Sugar, you may want to view the beautiful stars! FYI: they have the 4th largest telescope in the country ;) ROS AND TIN! you may want to include this in your places-to-date list ;)

PPS

Will provide my own pictures of the place next time ;)

There is something so utterly pleasant about last weekend that I cannot explain. You know the feeling of not wanting to let go of certain moments? Of happy times you want to be stuck in for the rest of your life? These moments I wish I could relive over and over again :) Absolutely one of the be best weekends of my life :)

Feb. 26, 2010:

Arrived in Baguio around 7-ish pm. Decided to eat at some Korean Resto in Session with Paul. Saw Clifford Chan and you know how Paul loves to make things awkward for me. Ugh.

Dahil matakaw kami, lalo na si Paul.

Attended a TAU Gamma event. Nakakabadtrip. We thought that its beer all you can for an entrance fee of Php 100. Only to find out that the ticket costs php 120.00, and we only get one Red Horse beer. :/ Wala na kaming nagawa. Joey went there after his class and after having n bottle of beer, we danced on the dance floor. YUCK. Sobrang weird but sweet :)

Feb. 27, 2010:

Paul as our own personal papparazi. I seriously think he is a natural. We love you, Paul!

Pig out day with friends. Ivy looks full already :D

Come night time, dinner with my family! Plus Paul and Joey :)

Paul slicing up some strawberries. Domesticated, he is.

Joey looks constipated. But I think he's happy :D

THE END!

Feb. 28, 2010: Sunday with Joey's family! Happy days! :)

If you ask me how my week went, I'd probably answer you by saying "I'm very well fed, thank you!" I would not be surprised if people started telling me I'm gaining weight. :D But no comments like that thus far so I'm all good! :D

My Saturday tastes like:

See more of that here. And might I add, I have an under construction flickr account, where I would be uploading my baked goodies. You may call me, Apron Girl  from now on. :)

Nothing much for today. Just doodles, pictures and spending lunch break with Denice.

And I doodled around 2 pm something to fight against the alluring temptation of crossing over dream world..

Feels weird to actually see how my handwriting devolved from the moment I stepped out of college. Not like my handwriting/penmanship was really special and beautiful looking.

Should I believe claims of handwriting being an avenue to tell a person's personality? If so, what does this I say about me? I say italicized and cursive which could be easily interpreted as a "slouching curvy person" (??)

The offfice looks more like an office now. We have our chairs, tables, files and stock transported from Makati. But I guess were only about 50% done with organizing /fixing and setting up necessities i.e. telephone and internet connection.

Met up with Denice today and found out were only about 5 mins away from each other. Kind of like walking from second floor AS east wing to CAL. I have yet to meet up with the others. This is actually the highlight of the day--knowing friends are just around the block.

Tomorrow we'll be having a demo in Cavite, and the end of the month we'll be in Palawan for.. I don't know.

Improvement # 3: Having a better posture, even if it hurts my back. darn, I'm too conscious of walking/standing with my back straight and my boobs sticking out.
-------------------------

Can't wait to do photography with a real digital 10 mp (or above plus plus plus) camera.

To end the first week of 2010 with scratching a car is like a cherry on top of my little rainbow colored life.

----------------------------
Baked some Carrot Cupcakes just for you.

Disheartened, disappointed and tired, that's how I feel.

Improvement # 2: Learn the art of driving, specifically parking. I scratched the car today! Ampota, dahil sa makitid na parking slot sa lecheng bagong office na yan. Oo na, it's my fault hindi ko natansiya na di pala talaga pwedeng makasya yung kotse dun sa exit. What do I get?

1) That what-have-you-done look my tita shot at me when she heard the car screech [which I then realized when my aunt started shouting while talking to someone at the cellphone, I was confused so confused] I will remember that particular facial expression for the rest of my life and maybe make appearances on my nightmares every now and then

2) Around a feet long scratch in the lower right back seat door. Thankful though that I survived it all and didn't get into a real accident i.e. bumping/crashing into another car with people inside it. Just little (shet, little ampota) accidents/stupidities. No dents whatsoever, we just need to repaint it but still :''( I feel so disappointed at myself... Now, I just don't know how I'm going to have it fixed and how much it will cost me. Shite

Photos will have to follow. Mom wasn't at all angry, for now, I don't know why. I mean it's her car I was driving. Seriously strange of her not to react violently or something.. Grabe, I'm really taking this incident to heart mainly because it's my first time to screw up the car this this this big, and the damage is kinda obvious. Really :( sucks.

All in all, today marks the first WORST DAY FOR my year 2010. Why show up so early??? :''''''(
